This page is here to assist and guide you with the preparation of your images, both DPI (Digital Projected Images) and Mounted Prints.
Mounted Print Entries
Prints should be submitted mounted on card with an overall size no greater that 50 cm by 40 cm.
For external competitions the mount must be exactly 50 cm by 40 cm.
Prints must be titled at the top right corner of the back. This denoted the viewing orientation of the
print. The author’s name must not be visible anywhere on the print or mount.
In addition, for each print, prepare a digital version according to the instruction for digital images below, renaming the digital image to the same title as the print version.
Digital
Digital images must not exceed 1600 pixels wide or 1200 pixels high.
If an image is resized to 1600 pixels wide but the height is greater that 1200 pixels, the image must be resized again so that the height becomes 1200 pixels.
Save the digital images as a JPEG (.jpg) at the highest (finest) setting and set the colour space to sRGB.

Resizing Images in Picassa
If your image is not already in the Picassa library, import the image
- Click on the Import Tab
- Select Folder in the Import from window
- Select the folder containing your photo and then the photo you want to import and click on Choose
- Click on Import Selected or Import All (see bottom right corner)
- Click on the image to select it (it will become highlighted in blue)
- Click on the Export icon at the bottom of the window
- In the pop-
up dialog window, click on Browse to select a folder for the export and click on Choose.
- Type in the name of the exported folder if necessary (or simply use the default name)
- Make sure the Resize to radio button is selected (blue) and enter the size for the longest edge in pixels (1600 for landscape images, 1200 for portrait aspect images)
- Set Image quality to Maximum and Click on Export
The resized image will now be in the folder you specified during export.
Check that the image is the correct size.
You can do this in Picassa by Importing the newly resized image and selecting it.
The size in pixels will be reported on the grey title bar at the bottom.
If the height is still greater that 1200 pixels, resize again reducing the size of the longest edge until the height is 1200 pixels or less.
USB Sticks
- Label the stick with your name
- Change the name of each of the digital images (both for Digital entry and Print entry) to the title of your image. Do not include your name in the title
- Create two folders with the competition name, the entry type and your name.
For example, for the Open 1 competition you would create one folder called “Open1_Digital_My_Name” and a second called “Open1_Print_My_Name”
- Copy the digital entries into the Open1_Digital_My_Name and the digital versions of the Print entries into the Open1_Print_My_Name folder.
