Lerryn is an old favourite to visit during the clubs closed season. It is a picturesque village with beautiful chocolate box style setting. Lerryn straddles two parishes: north of the river it is in St winnow parish and south of the river in St Veep parish. The river is tidal up to the village and there are stepping-stones across the river which are crossable at low water.
Kenneth Grahame found inspiration to write the Wind in the Willows on this stretch of the Fowey estuary. At the head of a tranquil wooded creek you will find the delightful village of Lerryn. Truly a hidden gem, this tiny and unspoilt village is the perfect spot for lunch, a pint or cream tea on the village green.
Hop across the river on stepping stones, watch the wildlife or hire a kayak to explore this lovely creek. You could also book a river cruise to Lerryn (departure days restricted due to tidal conditions). There is plenty to photograph here, from the pretty cottages, the lovely reflections on the river, some hidden lost gardens (Tivoli) and some wildlife on and off the river.
Lerryn has the perfect meeting place for the end of the evening, the village pub - The Ship Inn. We had a record number of togs attending this field trip but still managed to secure a large corner of the pub to finish off the night with some friendly chatter and a drink.
