Members Choice
St Austell Camera Club Members Choice Competition for this season is 'Minimalist Photography'
Minimalist photography is all about simplicity — creating a strong image using as few elements as possible. Rather than filling the frame with lots of detail, minimalist images focus attention on a single subject, shape, colour, texture, or line. Clean backgrounds, negative space, and careful composition are often key to making the image stand out. The beauty of minimalism is that ordinary objects or scenes can become striking photographs when viewed in a simple and thoughtful way.
For newer photographers, this theme is a great opportunity to slow down and look carefully at what you include in your frame. Try isolating one subject, using plain backgrounds, or photographing simple shapes, shadows, reflections, or patterns.
Minimalist images do not need expensive equipment or exotic locations — sometimes the strongest photographs come from everyday scenes captured with clarity and purpose. The aim is to create an image that feels clean, balanced, and visually powerful through simplicity.
