Penny & Spike Piddock

Like Sandpaper - Based on Ambon in the Spice Islands' with Penny and Spike Piddock both DPAGB,EFIAP

Penny and Spike Piddock ( both DPAGB EFIAP ) Members of Dorchester Camera Club and also British Society of Underwater Photographers. BSOUP)

As underwater photographers they have travelled to some of the best areas for diving, or in Penny’s case snorkelling, in the world. These are often away from the usual tourist destinations.

Their visit to Ambon in the Maluccas stood out as a bit different. They have some ‘critters’ not seen in many places and the people have not met many photographers .

This talk took us underwater to meet the ‘critters’ and on top to meet the locals with a few pics that are a bit of both.

We had two presentations over the evening, where Spike showed us his skills capturing some amazing images of some exotic sea creatures and their environment. Whilst penny shared her experiences taking photographs of the locals, who were all very smiley and very happy to show off their beautiful island.

The talk was captivating and kept our attention until the end, we had lots of questions where Penny and Spike were happy to answer and share experiences.

We had a real insight to the amount of camera gear required to achieve these wonderful photographs.

It was a real treat to sea the colourful sea slugs, the brightly patterned Mandarin fish, the transparent Shrimps and even the Frog fish( not so attractive)…

Penny and Spike have a wealth of knowledge of the creatures and their habitats. And shared some editing tricks too.

All in all our meeting room was very quiet whilst watching and listening to the presentation, most leaving inspired to try something new! So, a Huge thank you from St Austell Club!
